Why do kids get angry? Children get angry over perceived, big or small, injustices done to themselves or to others. Anger can also fester under the surface long term, when a child senses ongoing injustice in his life. Situational anger is more short term. Mostly anger springs from fear. Fear that we are, or will be, missing out on something that we want or need. Fear that we are not “good enough.”
When a child has high self esteem, they are less likely to feel that they are lacking, and therefore less likely to feel anger, or let emotions fester into anger. There are tools that we as adults can use to help kids build their self-esteem. Your child also needs to be physically strong and healthy. One of the best thing to buy for your child when he or she is still toddler is to buy a good balance bike. But before we discuss about the various tools to build your child’s self esteem, let’s discuss what underlies self-esteem. It is necessary to get to the root of emotions to manage them.

Teaching them to take time and enjoy each moment is also an important part of building self esteem.
Although possessing self-esteem means that a child feels loved by themselves and others, feels useful, and may be enjoying his or her daily life, they will still get angry, even full of rage at times. Situational anger can have negative or positive consequences that are short or long term. Providing self-esteem activities for youth and tools to manage the type of anger that boils up quickly is very important as well. Use anger management books that put a child in a hypothetical situation to teach tools for dealing with ‘in the moment’ anger, like counting to 10 before reacting, taking a deep breath, or even taking a step away from the situation. Helping a child think about this in advance will give them foresight and make it easier to control their responses when they get angry. Teach kids that anger is not a bad thing, but can be used for fueling positive actions.
