Consultation & Reports
This section lists some of the main official reports and consultation documents which directly influence the work of the LDAAT.
Every Child Matters: Parliamentary Report September 2003
This Government report was the result of shameful failings in our ability to protect the most vulnerable children. Prompted by the death of Victoria Climbie and past enquiries into the deaths of Maria Colwell and Jasmine Beckford, with its relevance further emphasised by the more recent death of Baby Peter, this report led to the new post of Minister for Children, Young People and Families and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

The Children Act 2004 sets out a new framework of duties and accountabilities to develop high quality services focused around the needs of children. It improved and clarified arrangements for agencies to work together and provide better co-ordinated and more effective support for children. It also allowed local stakeholders to evolve structures that best fit local needs and encouraged sustained partnership working to improve outcomes.

The Five Year Strategy for Protecting the Public and Reducing Reoffending Strategy/Consultation
The five year strategy for protecting the public and reducing re-offending was published on Thursday 9 February 2005. It sets out in detail the way forward for offender management in this country, breaking the strategy down into four distinct strands:
- protecting the public
- punishment, reparation and rehabilitation
- managing offenders better to stop them re-offending
- creating a vibrant system which values its staff
The National Offender Management Service (NOMS) is working towards a 10 per cent reduction in re-offending by the end of the decade. This strategy details how this will be achieved.
