LDAAT Strategy and Business Plan 2011/12
Our guiding framework – an introduction
The National Drug Strategy and the Government’s latest alcohol strategy “Safe. Sensible. Social.” provide the national regulatory framework for Drug Action Teams like the LDAAT to deliver locally the four main themes;
- protecting communities
- preventing harm to children
- delivering new approaches to drug treatment and social re-integration
- developing public information campaigns to promote the work being done
The guiding legislative framework for the work of the LDAAT is set out in the following strategic documents;
National Drug Strategy
The National Drug Strategy aims to reduce the harm that drugs cause to society, communities, individuals and their families. Titled “Drugs: Protecting families and communities 2008 – 18”, this ten-year strategy aims to restrict the supply of illegal drugs and reduce the demand for them.

National Alcohol Strategy
The current national alcohol strategy is entitled “Safe.Sensible.Social”. The next steps in the national alcohol strategy – 2007” a document which builds on the foundations and lessons learned since 2004. It will forge a clearer understanding of what is acceptable drinking behaviour, in order to reduce the amount of harm that alcohol causes to individuals, families and communities.
It outlines a concerted approach to support a change in drinking culture and shows how the police, local communities, local authorities, the NHS, voluntary organisations, the alcohol industry and others have a role to play.
